The Viano is equipped as standard with an exceptional rear-wheel drive system that above all reduces torque steer.
Even on mountainous roads carrying the whole family and luggage, you can rely on consistently high traction. And all this with excellent handling and optimum driving comfort.
And if you forget something and need to turn back, the Viano with rear-wheel drive offers excellent manoeuvrability and a remarkably small turning circle for a recreational vehicle and camper van (11.8 metres).
If you and your Viano are regularly in operation in poor weather and road conditions, we recommend the optional permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC[1].
It transmits engine power simultaneously to all four wheels and transfers this to the front and rear axles in the ratio 35:65. The result is appreciably improved traction on snow, wet leaves, poor surfaces, wet roads, and when pulling a trailer.
4MATIC is supported by the Electronic Stability Program ESP® and the Electronic Traction System 4ETS. It is activated automatically if one or more wheels lose traction and start spinning. Braking is applied individually to the spinning wheels and drive torque is increased at wheels with sufficient traction.
This enables you to move off and accelerate powerfully – particularly on poor road surfaces. And 4MATIC is now even more effective in the Viano thanks to 4ETS integrated in the standard-specification ESP® system.
[1] Optional for Viano CDI 2.0 and 2.2, only in conjunction with standard automatic transmission.
